Claude Duet Review: An AI Chief of Staff for Content Production
A hands-on Claude Duet review for founders who run content. What it does, how to set it up, where it fits next to Claude Code, and what it will not do.
Claude Duet is Anthropic's proactive agent app. It connects to the apps you already use, tells you what needs attention before you ask, and works on tasks in the background. For a founder who runs content, it is the missing coordination layer: the part that keeps shot lists, approvals and catalogs from slipping between the people who make the work.
This is a hands-on review from inside a working content operation. What Duet is, how to set it up, three workflows we run with it, what it will not do, and where it fits next to Claude Code.
Two layers, one system. · 44 seconds · where Duet sits in a content operation, and where the build layer takes over.
What Claude Duet is
Anthropic released Duet on October 21, 2026, as a research preview. The facts from launch coverage:
- It reaches out first. Each morning it sends a short brief on what matters across your connected apps. It checks those apps every few hours and alerts you when something needs a decision.
- It works in the background. Duet has its own virtual machine with its own browser, so tasks keep running after you close the app. It can handle small admin work or larger builds.
- It asks before anything sensitive. Sending a message, making a payment, signing a document or deleting a file all wait for your approval.
- It uses what your Claude account already has. Memory, skills and connected apps carry over, so setup is short. Coverage puts the connector catalog at more than 6,000 tools, Gmail, Slack, QuickBooks and Stripe among them.
- One running thread. Work happens in an ongoing conversation, not a stack of separate chats. In our account, that thread can be split into channels.
- The model. It runs on Claude Opus 5.5.
- Access. Waitlist only, Pro and Max subscribers in the US, on the web at claude.ai and in a mobile app. Its background checks count toward your plan limits.
Where it fits: production breaks in the handoffs
Content rarely fails in the edit. It fails between the edit and everything around it. The shot list nobody sent. The approval that sat in an inbox for three days. The product that never made it into the ad catalog. The deploy that failed overnight and nobody saw until a customer did.
A working content operation has two layers, and most teams only staff one.
| The build layer | The coordination layer | |
|---|---|---|
| Job | Make the work | Keep the work moving |
| Lives in | Files, repos, the edit | Inbox, drive, ad accounts, calendar |
| Output | Films, posts, pages, the site | Briefs, flags, drafts waiting for a yes |
| Tool we use | Claude Code | Claude Duet |
Claude Code is where we build: code-rendered films, sites and the checks every asset runs through. Duet is where the operation is watched. It reads the inbox, the drive and the ad accounts, and drafts the next step. Neither replaces the person who decides what is worth making.
Three workflows we run with it
1. The shot list, drafted from a client's text
A client sends a loose note about what they want filmed this week. Duet turns it into a dated shot list in the format our build layer reads, and holds it for approval. One tap, it goes to the client. The film starts from a plan instead of a guess.
2. The catalog check before a product drop
Before an apparel client's drop, Duet compared the drop plan against the ad catalog and flagged two products that were missing. Ads for a product that is not in the catalog cannot run. That is a slow week found before it happened.
3. The weekly results reminder
For a pool builder, Duet keeps the weekly results report on schedule. It checks the sources, reminds us when a number is due, and drafts the summary note. The report goes out on the same day every week.
Set it up in the first 30 minutes
- Get access. Join the waitlist on a Pro or Max plan. Duet uses the same plan limits as the rest of your Claude account.
- Connect the apps where work stalls. Start with email, your drive and the ad account. Skip anything you would not want it reading.
- Split the thread by client or project. One channel per client keeps briefs and drafts from mixing.
- Tell it what to watch, in plain words. "Flag any client message that asks for a change. Check the ad catalog against the drop plan every Monday." Specific beats general.
- Keep the approval habit. Approve from your phone, read every draft before it sends, and keep anything public behind a person.
What it will not do
- It will not trade securities or move money between accounts, even with approval.
- It does not see your passwords when you give it account access. By default it declines requests for card numbers and government IDs.
- Anthropic has said it is not built for errands or booking tickets, and you cannot watch its browser work as it happens.
- It does not make your content. It will not edit footage, write your voice for you or decide what is worth saying. That is the build layer and the people running it.
- It costs plan usage. Background checks count toward your limits, so connect what matters, not everything.
Claude Duet vs Claude Code
They answer different questions. Claude Code answers "make this." Duet answers "what needs me today, and what is the next step?" A founder with a content operation needs both questions answered every week. Use Code to build the system, then let Duet watch it.
Where WhyStrohm fits
WhyStrohm makes films, posts and campaigns for founder-led companies: one brand across your channels, made every month. We run it as a system: capture, plan, build, approve, publish, measure. The build layer is ours. Code-rendered films, the site and the checks every asset passes before it ships. Duet makes the coordination layer cheap to run, so the system holds when the week gets busy.
The work starts with a free company film. Then a one-week Sprint reads the market and writes the plan, the Setup installs it, and the Retainer runs it every month.
The first step is free. Get your company film, or scan your site to see where your content stands. For the system behind it, here is how it works.
